15th Wisconsin Infantry.


This regiment, under command of Lieutenant Colonel Ole C. Johnson, became hotly engaged with the enemy at this point about 2:00 p.m. on the 19, of September, 1863, maintaining this position for some time until forced to retire to a new position in the open field to its left and rear, where it successfully resisted every effort of the enemy to dislodge it. The regiment also assisted in the recapture of a portion of a battery near this place. On the 20, its position was changed to the left about three-fourths of a mile where it again suffered severe and additional losses.
