Born at White Springs, Florida, on the banks of the Suwannee River, came to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1899 as the town´s first school teacher. She married Frank Stranahan in 1900 and lived at the Indian Trading Post on New River, where she remained all of her adult life.

As founder of the "Friends of the Seminoles," she sponsored the education and welfare of the Indians for more than fifty years.
