Inscription
Pershing Circle was built as part of the 1930s expansion of Fort Bliss. It was designed to contain four buildings: a post theater, chapel post exchange, and division headquarters; however, the chapel and theater (now Sage Hall) were the only buildings constructed. Pershing Gate leads to Pershing Circle and was intended to be the post's primary entrance. As part of the 1948 centennial celebration, Memorial Circle was built inside Pershing Circle and the northern half of Pershing Circle was relocated to connect Carter Road with Pershing Drive. The flagpole to the south of Sage Hall displays bronze plaques commemorating the service of the First Calvary Division, the 200th Coast Artillery Regiment (Antiaircraft), the New Mexice National Guard and other units around its concrete base.
