Monumento a Sucre

English translation:Guayaquil on September 20, 1908 pays tribute to the memory of the "American Abel".Its total height is 8.50 meters, with a main base containing 2 bronze plates to the sides and the Seal of Ecuador to the front, flanked by the words "To Sucre, Guayaquil".The sculpture is based on a moment of the Battle of Pichincha, with General José María Córdova, sword in hand, and Lieutenant Abdon Calderon, holding in his hand the flag of the Yaguachi Battalion. It is worth noting that a smaller image of Sucre faces west with the Marshal of Ayacucho's feet perched on two hills in clear allegory to the Pichincha and Potosi mountains. The monumental sculpture of Antonio Jose de Sucre is carrying a sword at his side and spyglass in his hands. The statue was erected by the citizens of Guayaquil in order to pay tribute to the memory of one of the most important heroes born in the Americas.
