Chino Smith, a Greenwood, South Carolina native, was known as one of the best hitters in the Negro Leagues. He was the first Negro League player to hit a home run in Yankee Stadium, and during his tragically short career, he maintained a batting average of no less than .428. Satchel Paige referred to Smith as one of the most dangerous batters he ever faced.
