Alumnus president John Redd Hutcheson worked tirelessly to prepare VPI for the flood of returningWorld War II veterans and developed a sense of optimismand pride on campus. A nationally noted agriculturalleader, he received numerous honors, including Doctorof Science degrees from both Clemson and NorthCarolina State Colleges. The affable man served asVPI's only Chancellor.
