In the late 1800s, settlers used a pot kiln to fire limestone from Little Quarry, which is still visible in the woods as a round depression about 6 feet deep and 2,700 square feet in area. By the early 1900s the successful Lake Shore Stone Company needed greater quantities of limestone and started a larger quarry, now Quarry Lake. Little Quarry was abandoned and transformed into a wading pool for children.
