Inscription
Built in 1832 as a law office for John Lockhart; bought in 1880 by the Young Men's Christian Association, this being the first chapter south of the Mason-Dixon Line to own a building; Andrew Barry Moore Chapter of the U.D.C. organized here in 1903; also used as a meeting place for other organizations. Sold to the city in 1928 to be used for a city hall. Given to Marion Military Institute 1968. Alabama Military Hall of Honor 1988.
