The company was engaged in the Battle of Champion's Hill, May 16, attached to Loring's Division; casualties, wounded 2. At the close of that battle it fell back with the army to Vicksburg most of the enlisted men were armed with muskets and served in the trenches on the line of Moore's Brigade and near this tablet from May 18, to the end of the defense, July 4, 1863. A detachment served one 18-pounder siege gun in a position, not in the park, about 500 yards north of the railroad. This gun, one 30-pounder Parrott rifle and one Whitworth rifle, all in the rear of the line of Moore's Brigade, under Capt. J.J. Cowan.
