An Anacostia River That's Clean Doesn't Have to be a Dream
When litter's on the ground, and the rain falls down, it ends up in the Anacostia River. So when you take your last drag, or you just have a bag, please do your part and don't litter.

Making the Dream Come True
Volunteer Service + Partnerships
Here, in 1992, a city dump and a crumbling pump house framed one of America's most polluted rivers. A love of nature inspired nine teenagers to wade into the foul water and start to clean up the mess. Others soon joined. Today an extraordinary, growing coalition is creating a River of Hope.
In 2010, the District, Maryland and EPA legislated the Anacostia as the nation's first interstate river to regulate trash as a pollutant with a total maximum daily load (TMDL.)
