Laiboldt's Brigade

—Sheridan's Division —

Battery G, 1st Missouri Light Artillery.
4 Napoleons, 2 10 Pounder Parrotts.
Laiboldt's Brigade, Sheridan's Division, McCook's Corps.
September 20, 1863.

Captain Henry Hescock, Commanding (Captured).
1st Lieutenant Gustavus Schueller.
Lieutenant John Miller.

The Battery was not engaged on the 19th and early on the 20th occupied a position on the ridge southwest of Widow Glenn's in rear of Bradley's Brigade, in reserve, and remained near this position till about 11:30 a.m. when Lytle's and Bradley's Brigades were ordered to the left at a double-quick. The Battery followed Bradley's Brigade reporting to Colonel Walworth in command. While in motion by the flank, the Brigade was halted and faced the rapidly approaching assault of the enemy from the east, the Battery coming into position under a most destructive fire of musketry. Half the Battery occupied this position and the other half the ground near Widow Glenn's. The infantry in front failing to check the fierce attack of the enemy, this portion of the Battery withdrew about noon, and encamped at night at Rossville. The other Half Battery with the 27th Illinois Infantry and Wilder's Mounted Infantry, dismounted, repulsed the enemy in their front, and held the ground till after noon, when it retired with
Wilder's Brigade and encamped at the Tannery 2½ miles from Chattanooga. Casualties: men killed 1, wounded 3; officers captured 1; Limbers lost 2.
