In 1893 a single track line was built from Wilkes-Barre to Stroudsburg. It was the shortest route to a connecting line, taking anthracite coal to tidewater ports in New Jersey for domestic and export markets. With stations at Naomi Pines, Pocono Lake and Wagners, it moved coal, lumber, ice and tourists to and from the Pocono Plateau. Competition forced it out of business 1939. The tracks were dismantled, but sections of grade remain visible.
