English:Former Mansion of Doña Josefa Escudero AguirreThis mansion was the residence of Doña Josefa Escudero y Aguirre, the wife of Don José Ignacio Pardío y Puerto and daughter of Don Pedro Manuel Escudero Gilón and Doña María Francisca de Aguirre y Quijano. Of old conquering lineage and as a mistress of indian laborers, Mrs. Escudero, who was famous for her strong
character, was born in Campeche in 1772 and came to Mérida with her father, Don Pedro, when he was named "Factor del Tabaco". And what is undoubtedly most significant about this period was that Mrs. Escudero was the hostess of numerous meetings for the representatives of the conservative party while the opposite party held its meeting across the street at the home of Mrs. Joaquin Cano y Roo. In 1956 Mr. Antonio Mimenza Ortiz opened the "Hotel Sevilla", which operated until the end of the 20th century.
