English:
Main Square of Merida
Merida was founded on 1542 by the Spaniards on the old
Mayan city of T'Hó. The megalithic constructions of this pre-Hispanic city, whose origins go back to the delayed preclassic period 300 bc - 300 ac, remembered to the conquerors the Iberian Merida of Roman antecedents. The piramidal Mayan constructions were gradually demolished and in their place were elevated the Spaniards constructions and in the heart of old tho stablished the present main square. Today is bordered by some of the representative buildings our city as the cathedral of San Ildefonso - first in concluding on mainland of the American continent, the house of Montejo - whose cover is considered the best sample of plateresc architecture in America, the Palace of Government, the City council and the vestibules of the House of the Bailiff, among others you will be able to observe. The wealth of the architecture of Merida is so, that in its historical center exists an ample colonial repertoire, decimononic architectonic and of the XX century and is recognized like the second greater of the country. The main square is the heart of our Merida.Maya-Yucateco:
