John Hunt Morgan Heritage Trail

On the night of July 10, 1863, most of John Hunt Morgan's cavalry camped along town Creek in these fields. the next morning, while some of the raiders stole what they wanted from Lexington businesses and homes, others scoured the area for horses to replace their worn-out mounts.

Morgan's main column proceeded north toward Hinesville (present-day Blocher), and then moved into Jefferson County. Union General Edward Hobson's men spent the night of the 11th on these same grounds.
