LSU captured their first national championship in 1991 with a record-setting performance at the College World Series. The Tigers, who defeated Wichita State, 6-3, in the title game, established CWS marks for home runs (nine), runs per game (12), slugging percentage (.603) and fielding percentage (.993).

LSU which finished the season with a record of 55-18, dominated the CWS field, outscoring its opposition 48-15 in four games.
