The history of Cottonport began about 1823 when Joseph Ducote II married Marguerite Bordelon. On the bank of Bayou Rouge he cleared a cane brake, built a house, & planted these oak trees. About 1835 he donated some of his property for a road & a one room school house. This is considered the first planning effort for the town of Cottonport.
Erected for Cottonport Centennial, November 9, 1888-1988
