Born in Kentucky in 1803, Confederate General Albert Sidney died on April 6, 1862, from wounds suffered in the Battle of Shiloh. His remains were placed in the Texas State Cemetery in 1867. Elisabet Ney, Texas' most prominent nineteenth-century sculptor, created this effigy of Johnston in 1904.
