This schoolhouse was built by John Borner along the Old Indian Trail near the mouth of Sinks Canyon. Mr. Borner was well known by residents of Lander for is large, plentiful garden. He was married in 1875 to Lena (Jenny) Canary, the sister of the legendary Calamity Jane.
The school opened with 20 students ranging from first to eighth grade and served the community as a center of education until 1948. Several alumni of this country school still reside in the Lander area.
