This monument erected in honor and in commemoration of the loyal patriotic men who enlisted from the Township of Batavia Illinois in the War for the Preservation of the Union 1861-1865.
"On fame's eternal camping ground
Their silent tents are spread
And glory guards with solemn round
The bivouac of the dead"

Captain and Mrs. Don Carlos Newton
who in their bequest appointed
Charles Husted More - Albro Bishop Prindle

and charged them with the
