Este obelisco y la Plaza de la Fe Juan Pablo II, conmemoran y honran las visitas que hiciera a Nicaragua su santidad Juan Pablo II; El 04 de marzo de 1983 y el 07 de febrero de 1996, respectivamente.La construcción de esta histórica obra, fue realizada por la administración municipal del Alcalde de Managua, Ingeniero Roberto Cedeño Borgen y la Vice Alcadesa Licenciada Leda Sanchez de Parrales; durante el periodo de su gestion municipal, 1997-2001Managua, julio - 31 de 2000. ...Se requiere el esfuerzo conjunto y coordinado de todos, superando intereses particulares y partidistas, para caminar hacia un progreso moral y espiritual, humano y social, basado en la educación, en los autenticos valores, capaces de hacer de Nicaragua una nación que sobresalga entra todas las del continente. Juan Pablo II. En ocasión de su segunda visita a Nicaragua, el dia 7 de febrero de 1996. Su Santidad Juan Pablo II, con su visita pastoral a Nicaragua, ha puesto sus ojos en los ojos de nuestro pueblo; y con su mirada, con su testimonio, con su presencia, ya nos ha dejado a Cristo. Su visita ha sido, sin duda, un acontecimiento de extraordinaria importancia histórica, que ha quedado marcada con piedra blanca en los anales de nuestra ciudad capital. Pero sobre todo es para nosotros, como creyentes, un acontecimiento eclesial y portador de gracia.
