Benjamin Ellicott was born in Bucks County, Penna., April 17th, 1765. Died at Williamsville, N.Y. December 10th, 1827. The history of his life is closely connected with that of the western portion of this state. Together with his brother Joseph, he completed the survey of the tract known as the Holland Purchase. Respected and esteemed by those among whom he lived, he was one of their earliest representatives in Congress. This monument was erected by his twin sister Racel vans in the month of May, 1849.
