Here lived the planter and patriot called "Father of the Revolution in Maryland"Speaker, Maryland Assembly, 1773-1774, President, Maryland Conventions and Chairman of Council of Safety, 1774-1776. Having headed each Maryland Delegation to Continental Congress, 1774-1776, he returned to Annapolis to preside over State Convention that wrote Maryland's First Constitution.
