Lincoln County

Established 1809; named in honor of Maj. Gen. Benjamin Lincoln of the Revolutionary Army. After service at Saratoga, he was put in Chief Command in the Southern Colonies. Later, he was Secretary of War under the Confederation, 1718-83.

Franklin County

Established 1807; named in honor of Benjamin Franklin Printer, publisher, diplomat, author, philosopher, scientist and statesman. Most notable achievements in statecraft were his representation of the Thirteen Colonies at the Court of France, his part n drafting the Declaration of Independence & his part in concluding the treaty with England which gave the Colonies their independence. He was also member of Constitutional Convention of 1787.
